Tolemaide nasce nel 2001 dalla designer Ethel Norcia.

Inizia a realizzare gioielli in ceramica dopo aver completato gli studi artistici e aver lavorato per anni come restauratrice di dipinti antichi e affreschi. Da qui la sua passione per l’antico e per la continua ricerca cromatica. I suoi gioielli sono realizzati interamente a mano, in Italia nel suo atelier in provincia di Bologna.

Fin dagli esordi si distingue nella produzione di gioielli in cui si ravvisano pregevoli intenti volti a perseguire un sommesso neo-romanticismo intriso di sobria essenzialità.

Di contro all’insolenza effimera e alla vacuità della moda si celebrano femminili vanità di fascinazione retrò .
In questo nostalgico evocare il meraviglioso di una certa epoca, molto importante è il ricorrente recupero dell’objet trouvé, inezie e chincaglierie, ninnoli e ciondoli ora giustapposti in ogni creazione sono resuscitati dall’oblio per farsi un vanto delle usure, delle ossidazioni, delle ruggini, delle corrosioni di cui il tempo le aggraziate.

Tra raffinatezza e bric-à-brac, il leitmotiv che poi contraddistingue ogni creazione è l’uso della terracotta modellata manualmente, dove, a recuperare gesti di antica lentezza e preziosa artigianalità, si lodano anche le imperfezioni e le incrinature, ironici echi del caos e del disordine della vita. In essa sono privilegiate talune cromie diafane, polverose, svenevoli, di rara sofistificazione ed identità.

“Petalo”, “ortensia”, “miele”, “ruggine”, “salvia”, “cenere”, “edera”: non colori per eccellenza che restituiscono solamente in modo onirico i loro melanconici referenti naturali.

Ogni gioiello, la cui edizione è peraltro limitata a pochi esemplari in lode all’artigianalità e alla rarità dei materiali, esibisce le peculiari qualità descritte distinguendosi in una precisa identità estetica immediatamente riconoscibile tra le innumerevoli proposte di moda.

Tolemaide was founded in 2001 by designer Ethel Norcia. She began creating ceramic jewelry after completing her artistic studies and working for years as a restorer of antique paintings and frescoes. From the very beginning, her work has stood out in the production of jewelry characterized by refined intentions aimed at pursuing a subtle neo-romanticism infused with sober essentiality. In contrast to the fleeting insolence and emptiness of fashion, her creations celebrate feminine vanities with a retro allure.

In this nostalgic evocation of the wonders of a certain era, the recurring recovery of the objet trouvé plays a very important role: trifles and trinkets, knick-knacks and pendants—now juxtaposed in each creation—are revived from oblivion, proudly displaying the wear, oxidation, rust, and corrosion bestowed upon them by time.

Between refinement and bric-à-brac, the leitmotif that distinguishes each creation is the use of hand-modeled terracotta. In reclaiming gestures of ancient slowness and precious craftsmanship, imperfections and cracks are also celebrated—ironic echoes of the chaos and disorder of life. Within this material, certain diaphanous, dusty, and languid color tones are favored, marked by rare sophistication and identity: “petal,” “hydrangea,” “honey,” “rust,” “sage,” “ash,” “ivy”—not colors in the strict sense, but evocative hues that render their melancholic natural references in a dreamlike way.

Each piece of jewelry—produced in limited editions of only a few items, in homage to craftsmanship and the rarity of materials—embodies these distinctive qualities, standing out with a precise aesthetic identity that is immediately recognizable among the countless offerings of the fashion world.
